Tonight we show two of the most exciting, stylistically fascinating love stories of the last 25 years. On 35mm!

First up is Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight adapted from the Elmore Leonard novel and starring blisteringly-hot Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney in their 90's prime.

This was one of the movies where Soderbergh got his groove back, developed a radically fun yet cinematically advanced style, and told great genre stories.

Bank robber George Foley and US Marshall Karen Cisco share a car trunk during Foley's escape from prison. From there, though the sexual attraction is immediate, the cat and mouse game also begins as Cisco is deadly serious about her job of taking Foley back to jail.

Filled with wildly inventive cross-cutting and editing (courtesy of Lawrence ofArabia editor Anne V Coates), great camerwork, fun performances. . .look everyone is firing on all cylinders here. Come enjoy a great noir.

We follow that up with one of Ang Lee's greatest movies, the World War II spy thriller Lust Caution. As with so much of Lee's greatest work, there is a surprisingly powerful subversive and original undercurrent to his story of Chinese Rebels working to assassinate a fascist collaborator with the Japanese during Japan's occupation of China.

Reserved student Wong Chia Chi joins the Chinese resistance and is recruited to seduce and then set up the assassination of Mr. Lee (the always amazing Tony Leung), a special agent of the puppet Japanese government.

What's so stunning here is how Ang Lee so masterfully weaves in the intense sex scenes with the story itself so that the sex, unlike most movies that try to tackle the NC-17, is integral to the story and its ultimate powerful climax.

Because for most of us, sex isn't just sex, it's also an engine of emotion.

Come join us for two of the greatest movies on love between opposites of the last 25 years. On 35mm!

Best always,

Craig Hammill
