An approx 90 minute program with a casual meet & greet mixer to follow so filmmakers can connect, network, create community.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please make sure to purchase tickets for either PART 1 and/or PART 2 based on when your short or the shorts you want to see are programmed. Doors for Part 1 will open at 6p so filmmakers can mix ahead of the screening.
Doors for Part 2 will open at 830p with mixer to follow at 1030pm after the screening.
An approx 90 minute program with an hour long casual meet & greet mixer to follow so filmmakers can connect, network, create community.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We will welcome all short submissions as long as they follow the basic rules. However, we hope and encourage those moviemakers who are up for the challenge to make a movie between now and February 21, 2022 @ 10a (all competition shorts must be submitted by this deadline for consideration). Those who do will be put in the running to win 2 complimentary tickets for all our events through April 2022! PLUS we'll do a video interview with the filmmaker and blast the winning short to our 40K+ audience.
The optional theme for Feb 2022 is "love". You can interpret that however you want as long as the final short film feels like it addresses this theme in an interesting way. For instance, you could totally make a movie about "hate" and somehow point out love and hate often exist at the same intensity. Or your love of sitting around doing nothing. Whatever just as long as it works. ALSO. . .you have to make the short between now and the screening date. We want folks to get back to creating! Finally, the short has to be 10 minutes or fewer. We will consider a few shorts that exceed 10 minutes if they're really great. But the absolute ceiling is 30 minutes. We recommend you keep your shorts under 10mns to have best chance at selection.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
***ALL AUDIENCE will be required to show proof of vaccination at the door. PLEASE HAVE YOUR VIRTUAL OR PHYSICAL VACCINATION CARD READY BEFORE ENTERING THE THEATER. If you have an exemption, please have proof of a negative PCR level COVID test within 3 days of the screening.
***ALL GUESTS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH PROTOCOLS PRIOR TO ENTERING THEATER SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A FUN AND SAFE TIME.
***EVERYONE WILL STILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR MASKS INDOORS WHEN NOT EATING/DRINKING CONCESSIONS IN THEIR ASSIGNED SEATS.
HOW TO:
1)PLEASE BRING AND WEAR A PROPER MASK AT ALL TIMES WHEN NOT EATING/DRINKING INSIDE THE THEATER AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION.
2)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.
We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!
3)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer your complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!
Welcome to our next Open Mic Shorts Night! As with January 2022, we will accept all submissions of any kind of short as long as it is 10mns or fewer. We will consider, on a very limited basis, shorts over 10 minutes but can't promise they'll be included. The absolute ceiling is 30 minutes.
For folks who want to compete in our monthly "Open Mic Short Challenge" where the winner gets 2 comp tickets to all our events through April 2022 AND a video interview and their short blasted out to our 40K+ audience must follow these rules:
1)Shorts must be made between the announcement of this night (January 13, 2022) and the night itself (February 23, 2022). So no "pre-existing" shorts on this topic. We want you to go out there and make something! We will host other nights for pre-existing shorts.
2)Shorts must be 10mns or fewer. We will consider 10+ minute shorts IF they're really great. But the absolute ceiling is 30 minutes. If you keep it under 10 minutes, you'll automatically get in on a "first submitted, first confirmed" basis.
3)We will fill up the program on a "first submitted, first confirmed" basis. You'll submit your completed short to community@secretmovieclub.com. PLEASE PUT IN YOUR HEADING: FEB 2022 LOVE SHORT SUBMISSION + the title of your movie.
Also, please include contact info & social media handles for your cast/crew so other moviemakers at the event can network with you so we can grow our film community and make great work!
4)We encourage shorts of all kinds and want these nights to be democratic. The only shorts we'll have to turn down automatically are those that are intentionally demeaning with no clear artistic purpose or merit. Other than that, your short can be as provocative as you want it to be. As long as the artistic intent is clear.
5)All filmmakers will be notified if their short made the cut by Feb 15, 2022 so they can invite friends, get word out. If we get enough submissions, we will add a 2nd night of shorts.
There is no cost to submit, etc. We just ask that everyone attending the ACTUAL NIGHT pay $10/ticket so we can cover our overhead/projection/theater costs so we can do more and more events like these! We'll have wine, beer, concessions, food to make the night a blast.

REFUNDS:
We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.
However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.
HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
We will have a staff member on duty to monitor all cars parked in the street-art alleyway at our entrance.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
