SPECIAL NOTE: We are celebrating the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series & feature films for our April Anime spotlight. We do HIGHLY recommend that all audience members stream/watch (Netflix & Amazon prime) the television series (13 hours total) & END OF EVANGELION (the 1997 re-cap movie, 90 minutes) ahead of our feature film celebration since the movies re-tell and in many ways re-vise what happened in the landmark anime television series.

This is a celebration of anime through the prism of one of the key hallmark anime masterpieces of all time. We highly recommend folks buy the EVANGELION ALL-ACCESS PASS for all 3 features & a special "Secret" party that will follow Evangelion 3.33 Saturday night. The Secret party will include a very important secret screening that should serve as a fitting how shall we say, finale! But only AUDIENCE with the PASS will be able to attend.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

***ALL AUDIENCE are still required to show proof of vaccination at the door. PLEASE HAVE YOUR VIRTUAL OR PHYSICAL VACCINATION CARD READY BEFORE ENTERING THE THEATER. If you have an exemption, please have proof of a negative PCR level COVID test within 3 days of the screening.

***As of April 1, 2022, masks are now optional for indoor theater events if you're fully vaccinated. Anyone with a vaccination exemption can still attend as long as they have proof of a RT-PCR level negative Covid test ( within 72 hours of the event) but will be required to wear a mask. We will continue to update our protocols with the dynamic situation.

HOW TO:

1)PLEASE BRING YOUR VACCINATION CARD (digital cards accepted).

2)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.

We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!

3)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer your complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!

Tonight and tomorrow night, we celebrate our Anime April through the prism of exhaustively looking at one hallmark classic: the Evangelion 1.11, 2.22, 3.33, (and a secret screening at the party Saturday night) series of features made after the celebrated and controversial TV show.

Tonight, we show Evangelion 1.11 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE and Evangelion 2.22 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE made in 2007 and 2009, 10 years after the hallmark Japanese anime TV series ended with two controversial episodes that left fans stunned and wondering.

Written and co-directed by Japanese master filmmaker and anime maestro Hideaki Anno (who would also do the mind blowing Godzilla re-boot Shin Godzilla), the Evangelion cycle of 4 movies (which just culminated with the fourth and final feature released in 2021, but more on that later) is not so much a continuation of the NEG TV series as a sometimes subtle, sometimes stunning and bold re-imagining, re-telling, and re-envisioning.

If you've seen what David Lynch did with Twin Peaks in Twin Peaks Season 3, you will have some sense of the risks, re-examination, experimentation you're in for.

The Evangelion movies like the TV series tell the story of a battle between a mysterious being called Angel and a para military organization that uses giant humanoid bio-machines known as Evangelions.

In the features 1.11 and 2.22, Ano and his team use the feature film format to address, correct, develop, interrogate, not only the original series but also the very controversial final few episodes when the series suddenly ran out of money.

What they have produced is nothing short of one of the biggest resurrections and pop culture hits Japanese anime has ever seen.

Come join us, be inspired, get riled out, go on the journey. We're taking the WHOLE journey. And it starts tonight.

Best always,

Craig Hammill
