SECRET MOVIE CLUB presents

Part of our SPECIAL SPEAKERS Series, Wednesday, October 23, 2024

7:30pm WEEKEND IN TAIPEI (co-wri & dir by George Huang, Ketchup Entertainment, USA/France/Taiwan, 101mns, R, DCP)

SPECIAL NOTE: We are beyond excited to announce that DIY moviemaker supreme Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn, Spy Kids, etc) will be moderating the Q&A as he speaks to co-writer/director George Huang. We’ll be screening this movie FREE to all customers who reserve tickets via the link below (while spots last).

LOCATION: The Secret Movie Club Theater, 1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90021

PARKING: Please note our entrance is NOT on Bay Street. You access our entrance from Wilson Street by turning into the street art alleyway/corridor in the back of the building. Look for our signs which guide you to parking.  Audience can park for free in corridor in any space that doesn’t have a street sign or door/stairs/gate. Free parking is also available on Wilson and Bay Streets.

Every now and then an amazing opportunity comes along, Secret Movie Club feels lucky to be a part of. Tonight, we have co-writer/director George Huang (Swimming with Sharks) joining us for a Q&A hosted by one of the most resourceful moviemakers of the last thirty years, Robert Rodriguez (his famed 1992 action debut El Mariachi made for only $10,000 and tons of creativity).

Two moviemakers who have navigated the strange and choppy waters from the 1990’s to the 2020’s talking about Mr. Huang’s kick-ass new action movie Weekend in Taipei, co-written by Luc Besson, creator of TAKEN and THE TRANSPORTER, WEEKEND IN TAIPEI opens in theaters November 8. And Secret Movie Club is lucky enough to screen a sneak peak and conversation first.

On a deep undercover assignment in Taipei, DEA agent John Lawlor (Luke Evans) was doing everything right… until he fell in love with his informant, beautiful Josephine “Joey” Kwang (Gwei Lun-mei), one of the Asian underworld’s best transport drivers.  Compromised and cover blown, John was forced to flee.  Now, years later, John is back in Taipei for the weekend. But is he here to finish the job?  Or to win back Joey’s love?

This movie event is free to our guests but we only have 100 seats, so reserve your spot now.  It’s a rare chance to have an amazing trifecta evening: great action movie, great audience, great Q&A. This is a must for moviemakers who want some inside scoops on how folks are getting it done.

HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:

We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.

There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
