**We will open doors 1 HOUR before each screening time so audience can have plenty of time to enter, maintain 6 feet of distance, pick up or buy concessions/drink, and get their seats. We will have staff who will help guide and direct audience to their seats. Audience staying for both features will be given RESERVED SIGNS to save their seats for the next screening.

11am THE THING (1982, dir by John Carpenter, Universal, 109mns, 35MM)

2pm THEY LIVE (1988, dir by John Carpenter, Universal, 97mns, 35MM)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

**WE ARE OBSERVING ALL COVID HEALTH PROTOCOLS ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY OF LA DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (AS DIRECTED 4/17/21).

THIS INCLUDES KEEPING OUR CAPACITY TO A TOTAL OF 200 GUESTS PER SCREENING (10% MAX CAPACITY), 6-12FT DISTANCING, ENFORCED MASK WEARING, ETC.

***ALL GUESTS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH PROTOCOLS PRIOR TO ENTERING THEATER SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A FUN AND SAFE TIME.

****Because we are able to maintain 6ft-12ft of distancing between all households due to the movie palace size of the theater (2000 seats but we’re only using 200 seats), Grand Central Market (next door) is allowing all audience to purchase food & drink (including alcoholic beverages) and bring them into the theater. So please feel free before your screening or at intermission to head over to GCM to get food/beverage to bring back into theater.

HOW TO:

1)PLEASE PURCHASE ALL TICKETS FOR FOLKS IN YOUR “HOUSEHOLD” AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HELP US KNOW HOW TO LAY OUT THAT DAY’S SEATING PLAN. So for example, if you are attending in a group of 3 people all of whom will be sitting together, please purchase ALL 3 TICKETS at the same time.

For the time being, we are capping the maximum “household” number to 4 tickets/4 people who can sit next to each other.

2)PLEASE BRING AND BE READY TO WEAR A PROPER MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE THEATER. While you will be able to order, eat, and drink concessions in your reserved seating area (always 6-12 ft apart from other households), you will be required to wear your mask at all other times.

3)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.

We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!

4)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!

Today we do a double header of John Carpenter on 35mm at the Million Dollar Theater!

First up, what's often considered Carpenter's very best movie and magnum opus, 1982's The Thing. Fascinatingly, this movie itself is a remake of the 1950's Christian Nyby/Howard Hawks' The Thing though Carpenter and company take the sci-fi horror to much deeper, stranger, more fascinating levels.

Here we get a team of Antarctic roughnecks and scientists, headed informally by Kurt Russell's MacCready, a hard-drinking helicopter pilot, who seems to have way more common sense than almost anyone else on the team.

When they rescue a dog from an apparently crazy Norwegian scientist team intent on killing it, they soon come to realize the dog is an extra-terrestrial lifeform that can imitate and take over any host within seconds to hide itself.

Soon the entire base is playing a game of "Who is" and "Who isn't" as they descend into paranoia and survival. One of THE if not THE greatest practical special effects movies ever made.

We follow it up with Carpenter's 1988 sci-fi cult classic on another kind of alien takeover They Live. Here our hero George Nada (played by pro-wrestler Roddy Piper having the time of his life) discovers a pair of sunglasses that allows him to see that many of the richest and most powerful human beings are actually aliens who have slowly but surely been using mass media to hyponotize and distract actual humans from the takeover.

Both hilarious and bone-chilling, They Live has inspired everyone from artist Shepherd Fairy to many a musician with its brilliant metaphor for how we allow entertainment to distract us from the actual damage some of the most rich and powerful do to the most vulnerable.

Also there's a dope 10 minute alleyway fist fight between Keith David (returning from THE THING) and Roddy Piper that has to be seen to be believed.

So come join us for two Carpenter classics on 35mm at the historic Million Dollar Movie Theater in DTLA!

Best always,

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS

REFUNDS:

We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.

However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.

WHY ARE THE TICKET PRICES HIGHER THAN NORMAL?

In order for us to re-open, maintain health protocols (which includes operating at only 50% capacity), and screen movies on 35MM, we need to temporarily raise our ticket prices. We apologize.

However, if you could look at this as partially helping Secret Movie Club re-open indoor theaters and 35MM film screening, we would be eternally grateful.

As we can increase capacity, we will IMMEDIATELY LOWER ticket prices.

If you could look at this as all of us being in this together, we WILL remember your kindness.

HELPFUL MILLION DOLLAR THEATER MOVIE PALACE PARKING TIPS:

We recommend you go to ADD ONS and pre-order an all day $6 Grand Central Parking Lot Pass. The Grand Central Parking Lot is at the corner of 3rd Street and Hill Street just 1 block from the Million Dollar Theater entrance on 3rd & Broadway.

HOW WILL OUR STAFF MAKE SURE THE THEATER IS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE:

We will have staff in the theater (on both the ground and balcony levels) at all times who make sure everyone is wearing masks and obeying protocols. We will have signage at entrance, markings at concessions, restrooms, etc so folks keep 6 ft distance at all times.

Anyone not observing safe protocols will kindly be asked to leave. On top of this, we’ll be making announcements at the head of each screening to make sure everyone understands the rules & regs!
