7pm SNACK SHACK (2024, wri/dir Adam Rehmeier Republic, USA, 112mns, DCP)

It's hard to believe it but now if a movie takes place in the 1990's, it's definitely a period piece.

Writer/director Adam Rehmeier Dinner in America, The Bunny Game) channels Caddyshack, American Grafitti, and 80's sex teen comedies to smuggle in a comedy-drama about how two best friends take over a swimming pool snack shack to make money, socialize, party. But when they both get interested in Brooke, the pool's lifeguard, things get much more complicated than either of them expected.

The movie stars Gabriel Labelle (Steven Spielberg's alter ego in The Fabelmans), Mika Abdalla, Connor Sherry among others.

The coming-of-age and teen comedy movie has always been an amazing vehicle to communicate bigger thoughts, conversations about time periods, adoloscence, sex, love. Sometimes it's used just for Red Band trailer yucks. But every now and then in the hands of folks like George Lucas, Cameron Crowe, John Hughes, Richard Linklater, Olivia Wilde, Greta Gerwig, and now Adam Rehmeir, the genre provides the foundation for a humanist exploration of what it means to enter the adult world.

We're lucky to have writer/director Adam Rehmeier and some of the movie's talent (to be determined) attending to discuss how they made this movie and got it distibuted via the resurrected studo label Republic.

If you're a moviemaker, this is a chance to hear the stories and ask the questions you need to so you have helpful info to get your movie made and exhibited.

Best always,
