7pm LOST HIGHWAY (1997, dir. David Lynch, Janus, 134mns, 35mm)

9:15pm Q&A with Editor Mary Sweeney

Editor Mary Sweeney cut some of David Lynch's most beloved works including Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, Mulholland Dr, and many of the greatest Twin Peaks TV episodes. She joins us tonight for an in-person Q&A about her favorite collaboration, the 1997 mind-bender Lost Highway.

Lost Highway straddles a number of different periods of Mr. Lynch's career. Co-written with Wild at Heart scribe Barry Gifford, Lost Highway tells the story of the rocky marriage of Renee and Fred Madison (Patricia Arquette and Bill Pullman in amazing form). They start to receive strange videotapes that imply that someone is invading their own and filming them unawares. When Renee is brutally murdered and the videotapes implicate Fred, he goes to prison. . .

Only to suddenly change into hip hot young auto mechanic Pete Dayton in the jail cell! When Pete is released, he embarks on an affair with adult film industry femme fatale Alice (also Patricia Arquette) and soon the two stories collide and explode in ways no one could predict.

Lost Highway like so much of Lynch's work operates on at least two or three levels with a very powerful psychological logic (the inability to escape oneself and one's flaws even in one's own fantasy world). Filled with some of Lynch's most intense, graphic, and explicit imagery, Lost Highway will rock then shatter your world.

Join us for an incredible evening of cinema on 35mm and then a Q&A with editor Mary Sweeney, one of the key filmmakers who made this movie happen. All at the Million Dollar Theater Movie Palace!

Best always,

Craig Hammill
