*Please note attendees should plan to arrive 15-20mns earlier than normal to find parking in any of the nearby lots. We can not offer validated parking for this event due to its special nature. However there are numerous lots within 1-2 blocks walking distance of the Million Dollar Theater.

We're honored to enter our third year in partnership with the Guadalajara Film Festival as they screen the most exciting current work by LatinX, Bipoc, and emerging moviemakers.
GLAFF takes over downtown Los Angeles from the Ace Theater to the SMC Theater to the Million Dollar Theater from Nov 1-3, 2023. They bring some of the most exciting contemporary moviemakers to the fest for Q&A's, panels, etc.
Today, we are honored to help GLAFF screen their closing night gala feature MAESTRA at the Million Dollar Theater.
Five incredible women from around the world, who are boldly breaking glass ceilings in the male-dominated world of orchestral conducting, take center stage in MAESTRA, filmmaker Maggie Contreras’ directorial debut.
These women gathered in Paris for ‘La Maestra’, the only competition in the world for female conductors, to show the world the singular talent that unites them and which, for far too long, has been considered the pursuit of only men. Mothers, daughters, rebels, leaders – over four days, each took to the stage to compete: a mother of young twins from Athens, determined to show her kids anything is possible; a Ukrainian doing all she can to focus on her art and the competition in front of her while Russia invades; a Polish student just starting out; a newlywed American grappling with the decision to start a family; and a French immigrant returning to the city that closed its doors to her many years ago. Personal stories of survival, passion and perseverance are woven together with the drama and excitement of this one-of-a-kind event.
The struggles and triumphs of the gifted artists in MAESTRA offer a microcosm for the challenges faced by women in every industry and in every walk of life today, while also providing valuable insights into how we may conduct ourselves as we create a new movement for a more equitable future.

*Please note that though we strive to always show titles on 35mm film if advertised, we may have to screen digitally if the print we receive is in such bad shape or if we don't receive the print in time because of a shipping delay. We will do our best to alert the audience. When this does occur, we will offer each ticket holder who chooses not to attend a complimentary ticket to a future event in exchange. (Disclaimer: Good for 90 days – Future screening must have available tickets, cannot be a fundraiser, and must be comparably priced)

HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
