*Please note entrance/parking is actually in the back of the building. Make a right on Wilson Street, then a right behind the building. We’re the first set of black steps after the big gate. We’ll have staff to help guide/park you.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
**WE ARE OBSERVING ALL COVID HEALTH PROTOCOLS ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY OF LA DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (AS DIRECTED 4/17/21).
THIS INCLUDES KEEPING OUR CAPACITY TO A TOTAL OF 49 GUESTS PER SCREENING (under 50% MAX CAPACITY), 6FT DISTANCING, ENFORCED MASK WEARING, ETC.
***ALL GUESTS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH PROTOCOLS PRIOR TO ENTERING THEATER SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A FUN AND SAFE TIME.
HOW TO:
1)PLEASE PURCHASE ALL TICKETS FOR FOLKS IN YOUR “HOUSEHOLD” AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HELP US KNOW HOW TO LAY OUT THAT NIGHT’S SEATING PLAN. So for example, if you are attending in a group of 3 people all of whom will be sitting together, please purchase ALL 3 TICKETS at the same time.
For the time being, we are capping the maximum “household” number to 4 tickets/4 people who can sit next to each other.
2)PLEASE BRING AND BE READY TO WEAR A PROPER MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE THEATER. While you will be able to order, eat, and drink pre-packaged drinks and concessions in your reserved seating area (always 6 ft apart from other households), you will be required to wear your mask at all other times.
3)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.
We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!
4)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer your complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Tonight, we host an encore of our first double feature to sell out! A look at two movies by the Safdie Brothers, indie New York moviemakers, who have discovered a way to bottle a kinetic, pulse-pounding 1970’s kind of jangling filmmaking to a new era. And we bring it to you ON 35MM PRINTS STRAIGHT FROM A24!
The Safdie Brothers, despite only being in their mid-30’s, have already been making shorts & feature films for well over a decade in their native New York City. Bit by bit, they’ve discovered a nerve rattling style like drinking a dozen styrofoam cups of coffee out of a vending machine at midnight, that also zeroes in fascinating anti-hero characters. In doing so, they shoot a searchlight ahead for the next wave of daring moviemakers.
First up is Good Time, the Safdies 2017 breakout indie which also announced a Twillight-free Robert Pattinson as an acting force to be reckoned with.
Good Time follows determined, if self-destructive, bank thief Connie Nikas on his quest to free his brother from a hospital after a botched robbery and get them out of the city. Connie may have his heart in the right place (although even that’s debatable) but he’s a disaster to everyone he touches and comes into contact with. We follow Connie across one terrifying night in the city as he somehow manages to stay one step ahead of the law while all the while the net of law enforcement gets ever closer to nabbing him.
Good Time finds the Safdie’s discovering their unique talent to make a wildly entertaining movie that is still simultaneously heart dropping in your stomach stunning to watch. Robert Pattinson walks that fine 1970’s actor anti-hero line of Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino of being both clearly a f*&k up and somehow endearing. You’re watching filmmakers go next-level in this movie.
We follow it up with their very next movie which absolutely went next-level filmmaking platinum Uncut Gems starring a never better Adam Sandler as New York jeweler Howard Ratner who also has a horrible compulsive gambling and infidelity problem.
Howard has just scored a very rare rock filled with precious gems that he carelessly loans out to NBA superstar Kevin Garnett (played by KEVIN GARNETT!). When Garnett doesn’t return the rock, Howie starts to spiral out of control with his mistress, his family, his business, and the gambling goons (sent by Howie’s brother in law!) who come a calling to collect the debt.
Uncut Gems takes everything the Safdies had been working towards in all their previous work and blows it out a cannon to the next mountain peak. Much like Paul Thomas Anderson’s Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems is strangely, hilariously an Adam Sandler movie while, at the same time, dropping us into a 3 day nail biting roller coaster ride as we watch Howie somehow manage to keep going. But when will the wheels fall off? And when will Howie’s self-destructive behavior catch up with him?
Join us for this double bill of two of the most promising voices of the new crop of moviemakers. On 35mm!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS
REFUNDS:
We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.
However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.
WHY ARE THE TICKET PRICES HIGHER THAN NORMAL?
In order for us to re-open, maintain health protocols (which includes operating at only 50% capacity), and screen movies on 35MM, we need to temporarily raise our ticket prices. We apologize.
However, if you could look at this as partially helping the Secret Movie Club Theater re-open, make the improvements as we go to turn this into the amazing movie watching, movie making center we know it can be, we would be eternally grateful.
As we can increase capacity, we will IMMEDIATELY LOWER ticket prices.
If you could look at this as all of us being in this together, we WILL remember your kindness.
HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
We will have a staff member on duty to monitor all cars parked in the street-art alleyway at our entrance.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
HOW WILL OUR STAFF MAKE SURE THE THEATER IS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE:
We will have staff in the theater at all times who make sure everyone is wearing masks and obeying protocols. We will have signage at entrance, markings at concessions, restrooms, etc so folks keep 6 ft distance at all times.
Anyone not observing safe protocols will kindly be asked to leave. On top of this, we’ll be making announcements at the head of each screening to make sure everyone understands the rules & regs!
