11am EDGE OF TOMORROW (2014, dir by Doug Liman, Warner Brothers, 113mns, 35MM)

2pm MAD MAX FURY ROAD (2015, dir by George Miller, Warner Brothers, 120mns, 35MM)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

**WE ARE OBSERVING ALL COVID HEALTH PROTOCOLS ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY OF LA DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (AS DIRECTED 4/17/21).

THIS INCLUDES KEEPING OUR CAPACITY TO A TOTAL OF 200 GUESTS PER SCREENING (10% MAX CAPACITY), 6-12FT DISTANCING, REQUIRED MASK WEARING WHEN NOT EATING CONCESSIONS, ETC.

***ALL GUESTS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH PROTOCOLS PRIOR TO ENTERING THEATER SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A FUN AND SAFE TIME.

****Because we are able to maintain 6ft-12ft of distancing between all households due to the movie palace size of the theater (2000 seats but we’re only using 200 seats), Grand Central Market (next door) is allowing all audience to purchase food & drink (including alcoholic beverages) and bring them into the theater. So please feel free before your screening or at intermission to head over to GCM to get food/beverage to bring back into theater.

HOW TO:

1)PLEASE PURCHASE ALL TICKETS FOR FOLKS IN YOUR “HOUSEHOLD” AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HELP US KNOW HOW TO LAY OUT THAT DAY’S SEATING PLAN. So for example, if you are attending in a group of 3 people all of whom will be sitting together, please purchase ALL 3 TICKETS at the same time.

For the time being, we are capping the maximum “household” number to 4 tickets/4 people who can sit next to each other.

2)PLEASE BRING AND BE READY TO WEAR A PROPER MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE THEATER. While you will be able to order, eat, and drink concessions in your reserved seating area (always 6-12 ft apart from other households), you will be required to wear your mask at all other times.

3)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.

We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!

4)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!

Today, we launch our 2nd Saturday of Million Dollar Matinees with two of the greatest action movies of the last 10 years: EDGE OF TOMORROW and MAD MAX FURY ROAD. Both on 35MM prints!

We kick off the day at 11a with Tom Cruise in a rare vulnerable and anti-heroic role as army publicity man Lt. Colonel Bill Cage who tries to weasel out of service and ends up getting sent to the front line of a Normandy like beach assault. . .against ALIENS!

When he dies within a few minutes of landing, he suddenly wakes up at the beginning of the day and learns to his horror, he has to re-live the day over and over again because of contact he made with one of the aliens.

Bill quickly discovers that war hero Rita (a steely, brutally practical Emily Blunt) had a similar experience. Together they try to figure out how to use Bill's curse/power to overcome a seemingly invincible alien army.

Think of this as Groundhog's Day meets Aliens (you even get an always great Bill Paxton as a cigar chomping unit leader!). Edge of Tomorrow has surprised everyone by slowly but surely becoming one of the most beloved, respected, amazing action movies of the 2010's. Directed with taut action instinct by wildman Doug Liman and anchored by two powerhouse performances by Cruise and Blunt, Edge of Tomorrow may be, next to our next movie, THE BEST ACTION MOVIE of the 2010's.

Which leads us to our next movie George Miller's mind-blowingly superior return to the apocalypse with MAD MAX FURY ROAD. At the time of its release, no one knew what to expect from this much delayed sequel or if it would even work. Heck, it had been 30 YEARS (!!) since the last one had come out. But the doubts were blasted away in a plume of muscle car dust, MAD MAX FURY ROAD turned out to be the best MAD MAX movie alongside 1982's masterwork THE ROAD WARRIOR.

Here Tom Hardy takes over Mel Gibson's fast car driving, mythological hero in an even bleaker(!) wasteland where ruler Immortan Joe suddenly discovers his top oil rig driver Furiosa (a totally committed Charlize Theron) has helped smuggle his brides out of his compound on a mad race to freedom.

Thus begins possibly THE longest filmed car chase of any movie ever as almost all 2 hours of the picture are devoted to Mad Max and Furiosa forming an uncertain alliance as they are pursued by Immortan Joe and all his punk-worshipper car driving hordes.

The stunts in this movie are still head slappingly hard to figure out. Stuntpeople on twenty foot poles launch from car to car, motorcycles fly over trucks, bodies fly.

And at the same time the story is surprisingly powerful as Furiosa and the Brides assert their independence from Immortan Joe's forced bondage.

So come join us for two of the greatest action movies of the 2010's and have a literal BLAST!

You can grab food/drink (even beers/wine, etc) and bring it back into the movie theater from Grand Central Market which is right next door!

Best always,

Craig Hammill

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS

REFUNDS:

We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.

However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.

WHY ARE THE TICKET PRICES HIGHER THAN NORMAL?

In order for us to re-open, maintain health protocols (which includes operating at only 50% capacity), and screen movies on 35MM, we need to temporarily raise our ticket prices. We apologize.

However, if you could look at this as partially helping Secret Movie Club re-open indoor theaters and 35MM film screening, we would be eternally grateful.

As we can increase capacity, we will IMMEDIATELY LOWER ticket prices.

If you could look at this as all of us being in this together, we WILL remember your kindness.

HELPFUL MILLION DOLLAR THEATER MOVIE PALACE PARKING TIPS:

If you are attending all movies on any given day (the double or triple feature), you can go to ADD ONS and pre-order an all day $6 Grand Central Parking Lot Pass. The Grand Central Parking Lot is at the corner of 3rd Street and Hill Street just 1 block from the Million Dollar Theater entrance on 3rd & Broadway.

Folks just attending one feature can also park at this lot and as long as you grab food/drink from GCM you can get a 90 minute validation stamp that will help the cost of parking.

HOW WILL OUR STAFF MAKE SURE THE THEATER IS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE:

We will have staff in the theater (on both the ground and balcony levels) at all times who make sure everyone is wearing masks and obeying protocols. We will have signage at entrance, markings at concessions, restrooms, etc so folks keep 6 ft distance at all times.

Anyone not observing safe protocols will kindly be asked to leave. On top of this, we’ll be making announcements at the head of each screening to make sure everyone understands the rules & regs!
