IMPORTANT NOTES:

**WE ARE OBSERVING ALL COVID HEALTH PROTOCOLS ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY OF LA DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH (AS DIRECTED 4/17/21).

THIS INCLUDES KEEPING OUR CAPACITY TO A TOTAL OF 200 GUESTS PER SCREENING (10% MAX CAPACITY), 6-12FT DISTANCING, REQUIRED MASK WEARING WHEN NOT EATING CONCESSIONS, ETC.

***ALL GUESTS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH PROTOCOLS PRIOR TO ENTERING THEATER SO EVERYONE CAN HAVE A FUN AND SAFE TIME.

****Because we are able to maintain 6ft-12ft of distancing between all households due to the movie palace size of the theater (2000 seats but we’re only using 200 seats), Grand Central Market (next door) is allowing all audience to purchase food & drink (including alcoholic beverages) and bring them into the theater. So please feel free before your screening or at intermission to head over to GCM to get food/beverage to bring back into theater.

HOW TO:

1)PLEASE PURCHASE ALL TICKETS FOR FOLKS IN YOUR “HOUSEHOLD” AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HELP US KNOW HOW TO LAY OUT THAT DAY’S SEATING PLAN. So for example, if you are attending in a group of 3 people all of whom will be sitting together, please purchase ALL 3 TICKETS at the same time.

For the time being, we are capping the maximum “household” number to 4 tickets/4 people who can sit next to each other.

2)PLEASE BRING AND BE READY TO WEAR A PROPER MASK AT ALL TIMES INSIDE THE THEATER. While you will be able to order, eat, and drink concessions in your reserved seating area (always 6-12 ft apart from other households), you will be required to wear your mask at all other times.

3)PRE-ORDER ANY CONCESSIONS OR MOVIE MERCHANDISE you would like from the additional Add-Ons. You can pick up all concessions & merchandise at our tables in our lobby prior to the screening.

We will be able to sell concessions & merchandise at the theater. But it will make everything much quicker and easier if you pre-order!

4)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. Let’s all do our part to beat this thing so we can go back to the complete movie going experience!

Today, we go all out for cinema with a 35mm mega-Memorial Day Stanley Kubrick triple feature at the historic Million Dollar Theater Movie Palace in DTLA!

First up, the darkest and most biting (yet constantly laugh out loud funny) of all dark comedies, Kubrick’s nuclear war comedy of errors DR. STRANGELOVE.

If you’ve seen STRANGELOVE, you know how hilarious and brilliant and mind blowing it is. If you haven’t, get ready to watch Peter Sellers play 3 totally different hilarious roles as he tries in each role (in different ways) to stop or manage the looming threat of an all out nuclear war between Russia and the United States.

Backed up by hilarious turns from George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, and Slim Pickens as various military men gung ho for the war, Kubrick and Sellers pull off a miracle by making a movie that is BOTH a taut tense thriller and a laugh out loud satiric farce. One of the greatest comedies ever made.

Next up is Kubrick’s masterwork and one of the greatest movies ever made: 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY on 35mm!  How to describe this movie?  A sci-fi mind blower that still feels ahead of its time, 2001 starts with a wordless sequence during the age of pre-historic man in which some kind of alien intelligence makes contact with apes to propel them to evolution.

Jump forward 100,000 years (!) to the 21st century where US astronauts discover a similar alien artifact on the moon which emits a radio signal pointed directly at Jupiter.  During the journey to Jupiter, the two lead astronauts of a top secret mission suddenly must contend with the evolution of their spaceship’s onboard computer, HAL, who appears to gain emotion and consciousness and make mistakes.  What is going on?

This all builds to one of the most mind-blowing third acts of all time.

And we wrap up our this Kubrick triple with his all-time classic horror movie THE SHINING on 35mm @ 6pm.  Kubrick seemingly mastered every genre he touched and that’s on full display here. From out and out comedy (STRANGELOVE) to sci-fi epics (2001), he returns to earth with an adaptation of Stephen King’s supernatural haunted hotel horror thriller.

Writer Jack Torrance (in a go for broke performance by Jack Nicholson) takes his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall, the emotional backbone of the movie) and their psychically gifted son Danny to be caretakers for the winter at the creepy remote snowbound Overlook Hotel.

At first, the job seems a dream come true as Jack gets to write, Danny gets to roam the hallways, and Wendy gets to be with her family. But there’s something evil and sinister in the hotel. Danny begins to have visions of blood, murder, ghosts as his father starts to lose his mind.

As they become more and more snowbound and cut off from the outside world, the hotel makes its final play to consume them all in murder and death.  One of the most horrifying and brilliantly conceived/directed horror movies of all time.

So if you want to kick off summer right join us for this 35mm mega-Memorial Day Kubrick triple. Feel free to just attend 1 or 2 or buckle up for all three.

No matter what your mind is gonna get blown.

Best always,

Craig Hammill

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS

REFUNDS:

We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.

However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write us at: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening.

WHY ARE THE TICKET PRICES HIGHER THAN NORMAL?

In order for us to re-open, maintain health protocols (which includes operating at only 50% capacity), and screen movies on 35MM, we need to temporarily raise our ticket prices. We apologize.

However, if you could look at this as partially helping Secret Movie Club re-open indoor theaters and 35MM film screening, we would be eternally grateful.

As we can increase capacity, we will IMMEDIATELY LOWER ticket prices.

If you could look at this as all of us being in this together, we WILL remember your kindness.

HELPFUL MILLION DOLLAR THEATER MOVIE PALACE PARKING TIPS:

If you are attending all movies on any given day (the double or triple feature), you can go to ADD ONS and pre-order an all day $6 Grand Central Parking Lot Pass. The Grand Central Parking Lot is at the corner of 3rd Street and Hill Street just 1 block from the Million Dollar Theater entrance on 3rd & Broadway.

Folks just attending one feature can also park at this lot and as long as you grab food/drink from GCM you can get a 90 minute validation stamp that will help the cost of parking.

HOW WILL OUR STAFF MAKE SURE THE THEATER IS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE:

We will have staff in the theater (on both the ground and balcony levels) at all times who make sure everyone is wearing masks and obeying protocols. We will have signage at entrance, markings at concessions, restrooms, etc so folks keep 6 ft distance at all times.

Anyone not observing safe protocols will kindly be asked to leave. On top of this, we’ll be making announcements at the head of each screening to make sure everyone understands the rules & regs!
