Their mission is to build community through networking events, share resources through our online database, and provide educational content by and about Asian Americans in Hollywood. They focus on highlighting the legacies who came before us to empower the next generation of storytellers, actors, directors, and filmmakers.
Tonight we partner with STRONG ASIAN LEAD to showcase the seminal early 1980’s breakout indie Chan is Missing made by and starring Asian Americans at a time when no Asian-American centered/created film work was getting a national release.
A hilarious and insightful indie about two cab drivers in San Francisco who search for the missing “Chan” of the title who owes them $4000, Chan is Missing launched several careers including that of its co-writer/director Wayne Wang. Wang would go on to direct both high profile Hollywood movies like The Joy Luck Club and continue with great indies like his one-two punch of Smoke and Blue in the Face.
Chan is Missing cleverly scrambles the classic Hollywood Charlie Chan series by having shades of noir and mystery while blowing up all the stereotypes of Asian-Americans that had done disservice to the community for decades in Hollywood movies.

REFUNDS:
We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.
However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write to us before showtime: community@secretmovieclub.com and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening, good for 90 days. (Disclaimer: Future screening must have available tickets, cannot be a fundraiser, and must be comparably priced)
HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
