Yeah, that's right! We're showing four movies February 2022 that star Hugh Grant. Why? Because Hugh Grant rom-coms are the bomb! Somehow Grant was able to age, change, weather personal controversies, to make a series of hugely enjoyable romantic comedies where he often worked to subvert or expand his initial "charming, dashingly handsome, innocent stud but he doesn't know it" persona.

First up, we're doing a double bill of Jane Austen adapted and/or inspired rom-coms.

Emma Thompson's adaptation of Sense of Sensibility pulled together an all-star team including Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, and director Ang Lee. As Lee has consistently done his whole career, he surprised everyone by sensitively and wonderfully adapting a 19th century period British novel and maximizing the comedy and emotion.

Here we get the Jane Austen story of three sisters who have to navigate the strange and arcane "rules of society" that dictate who they should marry. But of course they have minds and hearts of their own. At the center is eldest daughter Elinor's (Emma Thompson) unrequited love for the handsome Edward (Hugh Grant). With all the forces of society and their own awkwardness working against them, it seems impossible they will ever get together.

We follow this up with one of the smartest and most fun "Jane Austen" updates BRIDGET JONES DIARY. Here Renee Zellewegger plays the eponymous journal keeping single Bridget who, despite her clumsiness and self-doubt, suddenly finds herself torn between two men, the dashing if buttoned up Darcy (Colin Firth) and the caddish yet enjoyable Daniel (Hugh Grant). Tough spot to be in huh?

Here Hugh Grant embraces the "bad boy" persona that had begun to dog his personal life to turn in a performance of narcissistic and hedonistic comedy.

Zellweger and Firth have incredible chemistry and the whole movie is a clear ode to Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

So bring your date and join us for a double dose of romantic comedy and intrigue done right. Your in the best possible hands when you have Jane Austen as your source material.

Best always,

Craig Hammill
